The SpiritThe Spirit
Night be a veil that’s drawn over summer,
but bright as a button the moon sallies through
and ‘neath silver light, down between setts and burrows,
the lives of night’s denizens doth continue.
The whiteness of mist be a cloak on the river
and nothing but shadow is found in the glade
where short shrews and sparrows are hunted by cats
in a tiny wee nook in the world that God made.
And up in my house, half-asleep on the hillside,
up in my chamber where I spent the day,
I am awake like the creatures nocturnal,
curs’d to be ever unbalanced this way.
For I am the victim of one wayward Spirit
that lets me rest daily, but troubles my night.
If I dare to dream, it will fill me with horrors
and worse still shall hound me if I see morn’s light.
If I had some magic, mayhaps I could break it,
as sorcerers have broken Spirits before,
but no words I know, no sweet incantation
could ever be spoken that it won’t ignore.

Her CatalystAs she walks through the maelstrom, the words trace upon the tips of her fingers and press into the stone. Every brick, every crack in the concrete, every crossed and angular stroke in reds and blacks and oranges. The drips of the gasoline pool around the base of her boots, slosh as she steps over the burst pipes and the rubble.
So much rubble. So little outcry. The silence of the city grates on her eardrums and the mantras she'd been forced to memorize. The Seers demanded they observe thirteen years of recitation before they attempt to weave their first World together.
But who other than the Seers can claim the incantations that knot the skeins they twist and pull on like reins hold fast? When have any of the Sisters recorded the visions they traced upon space-time and recited them, left them open for critique and discussion and debate?
